Alexandrite typically forms in metamorphic rocks that have undergone intense transformation deep within the Earth’s crust. These rocks often begin as igneous formations, created from molten magma that cooled and crystallised over millions of years. Later, exposure to high heat, pressure, and mineral-rich fluids particularly those containing beryllium, chromium, and aluminium triggered a process known as metamorphism, giving rise to the rare and remarkable colour changing alexandrite gemstone.
