How an Ametrine Ring is Made From Rough Stone to Polished Treasure

An ametrine ring is more than just jewelry it’s a story of transformation. From the moment the raw gemstone is unearthed to the final polished piece, every step reveals more of its beauty. If you’ve ever wondered how ametrine jewelry is made, here’s an inside look at the process.

1. Sourcing the Rough Ametrine

Ametrine gemstones are rare, found primarily in Bolivia’s famous Anahí mine. Known for its unique blend of amethyst’s violet hues and citrine’s golden glow, ametrine arrives at our workshop as a rough, uncut crystal. This is the starting point for every handcrafted ametrine ring.

2. Evaluating and Planning the Cut

Our Rosetti gem cutters (lapidaries) study each piece of rough ametrine carefully. The magic of ametrine lies in its natural colour zoning purple on one side, yellow on the other. The stone is oriented so the ametrine colour split is perfectly displayed in the final ring.

3. Expert Gem Cutting

Using precision diamond tools, the rough stone is shaped into a faceted ametrine gemstone. Popular cuts for ametrine include emerald cuts, oval cuts, and custom designer shapes. The

goal is to highlight both colours equally while maximising sparkle.

4. Polishing to Perfection

After cutting, the gemstone is polished in multiple stages. Finer and finer abrasives are used until the surface gleams, bringing out the natural brilliance of the ametrine and making the

colours vivid and eye-catching.

5. Designing the Ametrine Ring Setting

While the gemstone is being prepared, our designers craft a setting that enhances the beauty of the stone. Ametrine engagement rings, cocktail rings, and statement rings can be set in yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, or platinum. Each metal creates a different mood warm, romantic, or contemporary.

6. Setting the Stone

Once the setting is ready, the polished ametrine is secured using traditional stone setting techniques. Our jewellers ensure the gemstone sits perfectly, with prongs or bezels holding it securely while allowing light to enter from all angles.

7. Final Inspection and Quality Check

Every ametrine ring undergoes a thorough inspection. We check the polish, the symmetry of the gemstone, the durability of the setting, and the overall comfort of the piece. Only after passing these tests does the ring make its way to you.

Why Ametrine Rings Are So Special

Because each ametrine gemstone is one of a kind, no two ametrine rings are ever identical. The natural blending of amethyst and citrine creates patterns that can never be replicated. This makes every ring a true work of wearable art.

Whether you’re looking for an ametrine engagement ring, a custom-designed ametrine ring, or a unique gemstone to add to your collection, you now know the craftsmanship that goes into making these rare beauties.
